Overview
Camp Hoffman offers a unique outdoor educational experience for campers ages 8-14. Complete with hiking trails, archery, a pavilion, camp fire pit, outdoor classroom, basketball & volleyball courts! Camp Hoffman also has 3 ponds! Canoeing is planned, however we can only canoe when the water is deep enough, so canoe schedules may vary throughout the summer.
Campers will be bussed from Howell Elementary School out to Camp Hoffman at 8:45am every morning (unless there is inclement weather or a different Field Trip) Campers will remain at Camp Hoffman until after lunch. On most days, campers will swim at the Lawton Family YMCA or the City Pool (if it is open) until about 3:00pm before returning to Howell Elementary School for pick-up.
Activites Include
· Archery & Hiking
· Canoeing & Swimming
· Geo-Caching & Orienteering
· Sports & Games
· Team Building
· Songs & Skits
· AND MUCH MORE!
Camp Hoffman is a rugged outdoor day camping experience. Participants should be aware that while we do have running water and plenty of shade, our restroom facilities at Camp are port-a-potties. Campers should always remember to wear sturdy, closed-toed shoes to camp each day. We will be hiking through fields and woods on a daily basis—please send your camper dressed accordingly and be prepared for them to come home dirty and muddy!
Areas of Focus
Each week at Camp Hoffman is devoted to a specific weekly area of focus—that focus is the topic that most of the time will be spent that week. Campers will still have an opportunity to participate in lots of great activities each week, regardless of the exact area of focus. For example; if the area of focus is “Nature Exploration & Identification” campers will spend more time Geo-caching & learning about plant & animals than during other weeks, but they will still have a chance to shoot archery and canoe if they so choose.
Archery & Outdoor Skills
Campers will spend time learning the proper techniques of archery as well as playing various archery games. Campers will also learn basic outdoor skills, like pitching a tent.
Canoeing & Hiking
Watercraft safety, rowing techniques and more! Campers will also have a chance to compete in some great canoeing games!
Nature Exploration & ID
Geo-caching (using a handheld GPS unit) and identifying plants & animal are just a few of the things included in this week!
Wild Survival & Games
Campers will be taught how to survive in the wild (day camp style) with nothing more than a few essential items and a compass. Orienteering games highlight this weeks activities!
