The YMCA strives to encourage children to enjoy swimming for exercise, sports, safety and fun. We include Personal Safety, Personal Growth, Stroke Development, SourceWater Sports and Games, and Rescue into each lesson.

ADULT FITNESS/MASTERS

Mon - Fri: 11:15 am - 1:00 pm

Guppy Ages 6 & Up
To enter this level, children should be able to front and back float for 30 seconds with or without a float belt, paddle on front back and side (25 yards with a float belt and 20 feet without), jump into the water unassisted and show comfort in deep water.

Fishes Ages 6 & Up
To enter this level children should be able to front over arm stroke with rotary breathing (good form for 25 yards) rudimentary breast stroke, sidestroke, back crawl and elementary backstroke.

Sharks Ages 6 & Up
To enter this level, children should be able to front crawl with bi-lateral breathing for 100 yards, perform the breast stroke, back crawl, elementary backstroke, and sidestroke for 100 yards and swim 50 yards butterfly.



RECREATIONAL SWIMMING

The ymca has plenty of recreational swim time open for your pleasure. keep mind that under years be accompanied pool by (18+). children 9 - 13, while pool, must have a parent or guardian in the building
Water walking and lap swim are available all day. For times and pool information, ask for a schedule from the friendly folks at the front desk.

Swim Rankings

Parent and Child 6 months to 36 months
This program is for children under 3 years of age and their parents (or a trusted adult).  The primary objective is to make both the child and the parents comfortable in the water.  Children will participate in games that use basic movements in the water such as kicking, arm movements, and breath control.  Additional activities are based on the developmental abilities of the child. 

Pike
Ages 3-5
Beginning level for preschool age children. Children will learn basic paddling strokes (front, back, side), kicking skills and gain comfort with having their faces in the water.

Eels
Ages 3-5
To enter this level, children should be able to front and back float 20 seconds with a flotation belt, paddle on their front, back and side (10 yards with a float belt and 5 yards without a float belt).

Ray Ages 3-5
To enter this level, children should be able to jump in the water without assistance, paddle on their front, back and side (25 yards with a flotation belt, 15 yards without), and front and back float for 29 seconds with or without a float belt.

Starfish Ages 3-5
To enter this level, children should be able to front and back float for 30 seconds, front crawl, rhythmic breathing, perform side and back and symmetrical paddle (15 yards with a float belt and 20 feet without).

Polliwog Ages 6 & Up
Beginning level for school age children. Students will learn to float on their back and paddle on their front, back and side.

Minnow Ages 6 & Up
To enter this level children should be able to front and back float for 1 minute, front crawl with rhythmic breathing, side and back alternating paddle 25 yards with a flotation belt and 50 feet without, front and back symmetrical paddle 25 yards with a float belt and 50 feet without.

Flying Fish Ages 6 & Up
To enter this level, children should be able to perform the front crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, back crawl and side stroke for 50 yards and swim 15.

Teen and Adult 12 years and older
It's never too late to learn to swim. Classes are designed for beginning to intermediate levels. Learn to swim or improve the stroke you already know.  Private lessons are available.
